I. Fighting between Ukrainian troops and Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine is escalating despite ceasefire agreements. Russia is building up troops along the border to Ukraine.
II. After an Islamic State attack on the city of Palma in Mozambique thousands of people who escaped are displaced - dozens of civilians have been killed. Total is evacuating its workforce from the nearby natural gas production facility.
III. Patriarch Pierbattista Pizzaballa presides the Easter Sunday Pontifical Mass at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem: „I believe that this world, tired and wounded, and exhausted by the pandemic and the many situations of fear, death, and pain, worn out by too much vain research, finds less and less what it seeks.“
IV. In the Democratic Republic Congo protesters demand the UN peacekeepers to leave the country. They claim that the UN force has failed to do anything for years and is not protecting the people from frequent, often deadly rebel attacks.
V. In Great Britain people take to the streets to protest a newly proposed bill which would give the police easier means to disperse demonstrations.
VI. It is the first week of the the trial of Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, USA. He is charged with second-degree murder of George Floyd. During the trial protesters demand justice for George Floyd outside of the Hennepin County Government Center.
